The Giants would be foolish to push their two best players in June.

Sooner or later, Beckham may take a look around the league and wonder if the Giants are playing him like a fool. He’s doing everything Shurmur and the coaches and team brass have asked of him this offseason, including Tuesday when he participated in individual drills and and took part in the walk-through portions of practice in addition to attending all meetings.

At some point between the start of training camp in late July and Week 1 at home against Jacksonville, Beckham’s representatives and the Giants owe it to themselves to seriously engage in talks about a new deal.

Truth is, Beckham and the Giants have every reason to make this work before we ever get to that. It’s why Beckham is doing everything asked of him, giving himself the chance to earn that pay day he has earned.

And that’s a fact everyone should be able to agree on.

Dykstra’s attorney, Matthew Blit, has said Dykstra has the 911 call records to prove that he was actually a terrified victim of kidnapping, as his driver refused to let him out of the car and drove like a maniac.

Trump initially picked the fight with the NFL last September in Huntsville, Ala., by suggesting that NFL owners fire athletes who don’t stand for the national anthem. The following month, Vice President Mike Pence walked out of an Indianapolis Colts game when members of the visiting San Francisco 49ers kneeled during the anthem.

He also criticized the NFL’s policy of allowing players to stay in the locker room before a game but requiring them to stand for the anthem if they appear on the field, calling it as disrespectful to our country as kneeling.

Smith later posted a second tweet that read: There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go should’ve been able to go. It’s a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people don’t want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish.

Smith also recently became one of the first NFL players to respond on social media about the league’s new national anthem policy. The receiver suggested the league didn’t address the intent of Colin Kaepernick’s protest.

Duane Brown not focused on contract situation with Seahawks

Duane Brown held out for the first six weeks of the 2017 season in hopes of leveraging a new contract from the Houston Texans.

While a new contract never developed in Houston, Brown was eventually traded to the Seattle Seahawks in October. He started the final nine games of the year for Seattle and appeared in the Pro Bowl as an alternate last January.

Walls was a great player who was a Hall of Fame finalist this year. He deserves to be remembered for a lot more than just being on the wrong end of a historic play, but Walls knows that if he had to get beaten for a big catch, it was good to get beaten by a man like Dwight Clark.

And the players may continue, regardless of whether the NFL continues to act like it’s in the middle of a minefield, without realizing that the bombs will keep going off even if the NFL keeps perfectly still.

You’re learning a new offense and going up against the best competition possible. So, yeah, there’s been a learning curve. But I’ve made some strides within the past week of practice that I’m proud of, and that’s all I can continue to do is keep striving and make a couple more.

Mayfield’s had to adjust to the simple things like taking snaps from center, and whether the Browns want to acknowledge it or not, passing over Stanton seems like a reasonably relevant development.

Which makes sense, given that Gase once worked for Saban.

After the draft, Gase addressed the decision to draft Fitzpatrick, among other things. And Gase surely knows Saban well enough to realize that, if Saban feels strongly enough about Fitzpatrick to heap that kind of praise on him, Fitzpatrick may be the real deal.

Yankees hoping schedule beef with ESPN resolves without boycott

Yankees player rep David Robertson isn’t looking for a compromise with ESPN and Major League Baseball in an unwanted schedule change that would force his club to play three games in 24 hours.

He went there [to the Patriots] for a training camp and retired. S-is not fun there. I was under the same regime in Houston [with O’Brien]. I almost retired. S-was miserable, every day. Every day.Johnson added: All these guys talking about ‘I’ll take the rings.’ OK. You can have your rings. You can also have f—-15 miserable years. But Shea McClellin, who spent 2016 and 2017 in New England after playing his first four NFL seasons with the Bears, called his experiences on a Belichick-coached team the best two years of my football career that I’ve had.

The Warriors are trying to join Bill Russell’s Celtics, the Bulls led by Michael Jordan and the Lakers’ trio of title runs fueled by George Mikan in the 1950s, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the ’80s, and Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant nearly 20 years ago as the only franchises in NBA history to capture three championships in four years.

The Warriors are halfway there, holding a 2-0 lead against the underdog Cavs as the series shifts to Cleveland for Game 3 on Wednesday.

Listen, Golden State is one of the best teams I’ve ever played. It’s one of the best teams that’s ever been assembled, said James, who is playing in his eighth straight NBA Finals and fourth in a row against Golden State.

Curry, sharp-shooting Klay Thompson, fiery Draymond Green and 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala make up an All-Star-studded squad trying to repeat after James thwarted that quest two years ago when the Cavs stopped the defending champs. Kevin Durant bolted from Oklahoma City to join the cast last season.

The Brewers are 1-8 this season against their division rivals, and on Monday they lost a game in which Hader pitched for the first time this season (21-1).

jets_004Heyward beating Hader was as unlikely an outcome as any you’ll see — or at least that was the case with the old Heyward. The new, handsy one is a different hitter.

Timing is good, but when you use your hands, you don’t get body involved, and [I] can adjust mid at-bat and throw my hands at the baseball, he said. Trying to use my hands. After that, just able to focus on who you’re facing on the mound.

His teammates know what Heyward has been through and can appreciate the way he keeps working in the face of adversity. It doesn’t matter if it lasts. It’s happening now, and it’s helping the Cubs win.

In April of this year, the team announced it would be the first NFL franchise with a dog park at home games.

Smorol and the Chiefs tried this themselves last season, when they played one game as the Syracuse Salt Potatoes, a reference to a tasty specialty first popularized by Irish immigrants working in Syracuse’s salt mines during the 1800s. It’s the most successful thing we’ve ever done, says Smorol. We knew it would be fun, but we had no idea it would take off nationally, or even internationally, where we’re shipping Salt Potatoes caps to other countries. People were coming in and saying, ‘I have a brother who’s from Syracuse, but he lives in Colorado now and he misses salt potatoes.’

It’s not clear whether Syracusans feel a similar connection to the Brannock Device (some admittedly unscientific polling suggests that many of the city’s residents don’t even realize the device is a local product), but Smorol wanted to honor it this season anyway. He had decided over the winter to run a series of promotions honoring the heritage and culture of Central New York, and the Brannock fit right in.

The whole staff thought I was crazy, he says. It was like, ‘Brannock Device Night, what are you even talking about?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know what it’ll actually entail, but we’ll figure it out.’ Initially I thought of it as kind of a throwaway day, so we didn’t talk to the Brannock company or anything, because it was just going to be a salute to this object. We had no plans to do anything on the field with our uniforms.

Jack Flaherty retires 14 straight Padres en route to his third win of the season.

jets_005ST. LOUIS June is shaping up as a good month for St. Louis first baseman Jose Martinez.

Martinez and Marcell Ozuna hit two-run homers, rookie Jack Flaherty pitched into the seventh inning, and the Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Monday night.

Martinez has five homers over his last five games. He had his NL-leading 10th three-hit game of the season and has reached base safely in each of his last 11 games.

Brock Holt (L), 3 percent, Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox (RHP Reynaldo Lopez): With Dustin Pedroia back on the shelf and the club trying to keep Eduardo Nunez’s knees healthy, Holt has been seeing most of the run at the keystone, hitting in the top five of the order. Lopez continues to outpitch his peripherals, though the regression monster enacted a bit of revenge a couple starts ago versus Cleveland. Unfortunately, unless he improves a 6.1 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9, Lopez is due even more correction.

He works hard all the time, St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. He was great. He did a nice job. He mixed up speeds on everything. He got on base a couple of times and ran hard. He was working on one of our most humid nights so far.

This was a test in many ways. We needed a solid start and he answered. He was very good today.

It was a bounce-back effort for Flaherty, who took an 11-3 loss in his previous start against Miami. Flaherty, 22, has pitched five or more innings in all eight starts this season.

Flaherty retired 14 consecutive batters before issuing a one-walk in the seventh. John Brebbia relieved and walked the bases loaded before getting two strikeouts to end the threat.

I was throwing with more conviction tonight, Flaherty said. Last time out, I said I didn’t really execute well. I was throwing everything with intent. I was using conviction with every single pitch. I was just going out and trying to attack.

Jazz mostly laughs and smiles and bounces around all game as his dreads flop in the wind.

jets_006Make a play! Make a play!

One ball whistles past Jazz at a speed difficult for someone twice his age to glove, and Lewis snipes instantly, Get in front of it!Never mind that Lewis admits he never played baseball himself because he was terrified of getting hit by the ball.

Super Bowl XLIX. Seahawks ball on New England’s 1-yard line. Twenty-five seconds left. Running back Marshawn Lynch in the backfield. Instead, a pass play, a brilliant read from the Patriots’ Malcolm Butler and an interception that some call the greatest play in NFL history and some call the worst.

As Tepper was finding his political voice, the NFL was beginning to lose the public’s confidence in its own.

After being released in April, Bryant expressed an interest in remaining in the NFC East. But the Eagles, Giants and Redskins have shown very little interest (at least publicly).

On Saturday, Bryant was asked on Instagram where he wants to sign. Bryant briefly responded, before deleting the posting:

The 49ers would be an interesting landing spot for Bryant.

They are set at quarterback with Jimmy Garoppolo, but could use some help at wide receiver. The top receivers on the 49ers roster are Pierre Garcon, Marquise Goodwin and George Kittle. Not exactly a group which strikes fear in the hearts of NFL defenses.

Bryant remains the best available wide receiver on the open market, although how much he can boost a club remains in question. Bryant is a three-time Pro Bowler and was named an All-Pro in 2014. That was also the last season he had more than 1,000 yards receiving. The 29-year-old Bryant played in all 16 games last season for the Cowboys, finishing with 69 receptions for 838 yards and six touchdowns.

Better late than never: Seahawks land Brandon Marshall

Before he left town a few weeks ago after working out for the Seahawks, Brandon Marshall picked up a little bit of Seattle-related gear at the airport.

He was that confident an opportunity to continue his career was going to happen with the Seahawks.

I went in there and bought a couple of things, some shirts, socks because I knew that moment was going to happen. I felt good about the workout, Marshall said.

While Marshall had his ankle repaired surgically, he also had surgery on his toe for an injury suffered during the 2015 season while with the New York Jets. The combination of procedures extended Marshall’s recovery, and it was only just before being released by the Giants that he was able to progress beyond just rehabilitation from the surgeries.

Martin has had a roller-coaster career since entering the league with Tampa Bay as a first-round pick out of Boise State in 2012. He is the only player currently on an NFL roster with two seasons of at least 1,400 yards rushing, reaching that mark as a rookie with the Bucs and then again three years later in Tampa Bay.

But he has failed to reach 500 yards rushing in his other four seasons in the NFL and is also the only active player with two seasons averaging fewer than 3 yards per carry with at least 100 attempts, doing that the past two years when he was hampered by injuries and a four-game suspension for violating the league policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Martin also was suspended one game last year by the Bucs for a violation of team rules, all contributing to the decision by Tampa Bay to cut him this offseason.

The past couple of years I just got in my own way, he said. Being here and having my family around and old friends, it’s definitely going to help me stay busy. I can always confide in them if I need something to talk about.

FOX confirms Joe Buck, Troy Aikman will call Thursday Night Football

NFL fans will get a double dose of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman this season.

FOX confirmed today that Buck and Aikman, who were already the top Sunday afternoon duo for the network, will also call the new Thursday night package.

That will be a lot of work for the two, who may get some Sundays off. Buck will likely need some NFL games off in the fall when he calls the baseball playoffs for FOX. It is not known yet who will team with Aikman while Buck is focusing on baseball.

And while it’ll be fun to see what new cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib bring to the table, the arrival of three-time All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh could be a game-changer. Suh and Donald will team up to give opposing offenses absolute fits; there certainly isn’t another defensive tackle duo of that caliber anywhere else in the NFL.

In a go-for-it year, that could be the element that puts a stacked Rams team over the top.

Sanchez was part of the three-corner draft class of 2016, a fifth-rounder who never really made much of an impact. That was also the year they took cornerback Daryl Worley in the third, and he’s since been traded, arrested, released and resurfaced in Oakland. Second-rounder and presumptive starter James Bradberry‘s the last remnant of that shopping spree.

The Panthers signed wide receiver Bug Howard, center Kyle Friend, guard Quinterrius Eatmon, and defensive end Karter Schult.

Sherman believes it’s hard to understate how critical Thomas is to the Seahawks ‘ defense.

Obviously, that man plays at a high level and the defense doesn’t really work without his contribution, Sherman said. “I think after a while you show a certain level of respect to your players who’ve put in the time. And he’s been a great example of dedication and perseverance, and just incredible excellence. So obviously he deserves to get paid, but whether they pay him or not is up to them.”

Whether the Seahawks feel the same way remains to be seen. bucks_510
